Council should employ in-house solicitors

Castlebar councillor Frank Durcan put forward a notice of motion at the county council’s monthly meeting, that the county council should employ two in-house solicitors on a salary basis to deal with the legal business of Mayo County Council and three urban councils.

Changing personnel is what it’s all about these days as new cathaoirlaigh, mayors, managers, etc, are appointed to various public, sporting, and management bodies in our midst. Members of Mayo County Council have this week expressed their anger at the fact that Mayo County Council ended up paying a large amount of money in bank charges to cover overdrafts the council had to take out to cover the cost of capital projects until central government sends its share of funding for projects it promises each year.
